Harken Health is the latest health insurance provider to leave the Affordable Care Act’s health insurance exchange in Illinois.
That means just three insurers are offering plans to individuals in Cook County in 2017. Aetna, Land of Lincoln Health and UnitedHealthcare have also left the Illinois marketplace recently, citing cost concerns.
Harken Health, a startup by UnitedHealthcare, previously intended to offer individual plans solely in Cook County in the next year. The company did not specify why it’s leaving Illinois’ exchange altogether. Harken will still offer plans outside of the ACA marketplace.
The insurer did not say how many people will be affected by it’s departure from the Illinois exchange.
According to the Chicago Tribune, a company filing with the state showed that Harken’s proposed insurance rate hikes for 2017 were expected to impact 22,845 individuals.
