Violence in Chicago over the weekend left eight people dead and at least 40 wounded, according to the Chicago Tribune.
So far this year, Chicago has recorded 1,000 more shootings compared with the same time in 2015.
The newspaper reports there have been 3,475 shootings in the city so far in 2016, up from 2,441 at this time last year. Homicides in Chicago have also hit 595. At this point last year, Chicago had experienced 409 homicides.
