A new "super site" for early voting and registration has opened in Chicago's Loop.
The polling location is at 15 W. Washington St.
It is the only early voting site currently open in Chicago. Additional early voting sites in each of the 50 Chicago wards will open October 24.
Chicago's "Loop Super Site for Early Voting & Registration" is "designed to handle three times as many voters, particularly during peak periods in the last days before Election Day," according to the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners.
"Early Voting is a convenience for people who have their minds made up. With this earliest-ever start to Early Voting, we're proud to introduce our biggest-ever site to serve more voters than ever before," Election Board Chairwoman Marisel A. Hernandez said in a statement. "In the past, we might see long lines at our downtown site with 1,600 voters on one day. This site will have more than triple the equipment to handle more than 4,500 voters in eight hours."
The Loop early voting site will be open every day through November 7. The location's hours are currently 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
