An Illinois anti-gun group is set to protest at gun shops and manufacturers around the state as part of their call for a reduction in gun violence.
The cross-state action is part of Peaceful Communities' Merchants of Death Tour, a series of protests at gun industry locations that has taken place throughout the summer.
"The gun industry is making money by selling guns and ammunition that are causing enormous problems throughout our state and country," said Lee Goodman, organizer for the volunteer group Peaceful Communities.
"That industry should be held accountable for the damage its products are causing," he continued. "If the gun industry had to pay for the damage it caused, as every other industry must, there would be far fewer accidental shootings, suicides, and criminals using guns, because the industry would have a financial incentive to produce safer products and conduct itself in a more responsible manner."
The protests will begin August 15 and go through August 18, hitting the cities of Lockport, Coal City, Geneseo and Oregon, among others, along the way.
