Chicago parents rallied on the city's Northwest Side Friday morning to press for state and city solutions to the budget crisis at Chicago Public Schools.
The rally, held at the corner Central Avenue and Irving Park Road in the Portage Park community, was report-card themed and organized by the newly formed Parent Empowerment Network of Chicago, IL (PENCIL).
Gov. Bruce Rauner was among the elected officials who earned an "F" on the parents' report card for education issues.
"Nearly 400,000 Chicago children will receive their report cards on Tuesday and last week Governor Rauner offered his off-base 'crumbling prisons' assessment of Chicago Public Schools," said CPS Parent and PENCIL organizer Jennifer Jones. "It's time taxpaying parents checked in on their state and city officials to see if they made the grade when it comes to education funding."
