Federal authorities arrested former Illinois Congressman Mel Reynolds at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Monday.
The indicted ex-lawmaker, who is expected to face a federal magistrate this afternoon, was arrested at the airport in the morning after returning from South Africa. Reynolds said he was in the country taking care of his sick daughter, who he says has scoliosis and may have cervical cancer.
On March 31, a federal judge issued a warrant for Reynolds' arrest after the former politician said he would not be returning to Chicago from South Africa by a court deadline.
Reynolds pleaded not guilty to charges of tax evasion in July, and his trial is slated to begin May 2.
