U.S. Rep. John Shimkus' (R-IL,15) re-election bid will get the endorsement of Illinois Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner on Monday.
The two officials are scheduled to appear at six campaign events Monday in the 15th district to discuss the endorsement.
During the campaign stops, Shimkus also "plans to speak to the governor's efforts in Springfield (on reforms and the economy)," a campaign spokesman told the Belleville News-Democrat.
Shimkus has served in Congress since 1996.
State Sen. Kyle McCarter (R-Lebanon) is challenging Shimkus in the March 15 Republican primary in the state's 15th congressional district, covering parts of eastern and southern Illinois. No Democratic candidates are running for the seat.
