Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has tapped the Chicago Housing Authority's (CHA) acting CEO to permanently fill the position.
Emanuel announced his nomination of Eugene "Gene" Jones Jr. as CHA CEO on Friday. Jones was picked as acting CHA CEO in June. He replaced former CHA CEO Michael Merchant, who vacated the position to pursue other endeavors.
"As acting CEO, Gene has already made significant progress at the CHA by accelerating development deals and housing production to get more than 500 units under construction in just seven months time," Emanuel said in a statement. "He has cultivated relationships with residents and other stakeholders as he accomplishes CHA's goals of creating affordable housing and building vibrant, mixed-income communities."
Jones' nomination will go before the CHA Board of Commissioners on February 16.
