Third Affordable Care Act Enrollment Period Underway

Sunday marked the start of the third enrollment period for health care coverage under the federal Affordable Care Act (ACA).

People have until the end of January to enroll for health care coverage through the ACA's insurance marketplace, but they have to sign up by December 15 if they want their coverage to begin January 1.

Illinois' health insurance exchange, GetCoveredIllinois.gov, is a state and federal partnership, and residents are directed to the federal HealthCare.gov site to shop and sign up for insurance.

The White House wants to hit a target of getting 10 million individuals signed up for coverage by the end of next year. To help meet that target, the Obama administration is expected to boost enrollment outreach efforts in five urban markets, including Chicago.
