Medical marijuana dispensaries are expected to open soon in Illinois.
Patients could start buying medical marijuana for the first time within the next two weeks, the Chicago Tribune reports. ID cards are being sent to the 3,200 medical marijuana patients in Illinois, and the process of testing the medical marijuana in labs is also underway.
Six medical marijuana dispensaries and 13 cultivation centers are allowed to operate in Illinois as part of the state's medical marijuana pilot program, which is currently scheduled to run for four years and come to an end in January 2018.
Illinois' pilot program for medical marijuana covers patients with specific debilitating medical conditions, such as cancer, multiple sclerosis and HIV/AIDS.
