Former Illinois congressman and 10th congressional district candidate Brad Schneider is set to host a roundtable discussion on gun violence prevention with Connecticut Gov. Dan Malloy in Mount Prospect on Friday morning.
Faith leaders, community members and local elected officials, including North Chicago Mayor Leon Rockingham, are expected to join Schneider and Malloy at the discussion.
Malloy, a Democrat, has been a leader on gun violence prevention initiatives and signed sweeping gun control legislation in the aftermath of the December 2012 mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary.
As a congressman, Schneider also worked on gun violence prevention efforts and cosponsored bills that sought to expand gun background checks, strengthen gun violence prevention laws and provide communities with mental health crisis intervention services.
The Democratic former congressman has held other discussions with experts on gun violence prevention in the past.
Friday's event will be held at the Weiss Community Center.
