Teachers in Prospect Heights School District 23 are on strike after contract talks broke down Tuesday night.
Prospect Heights Education Association, which represents the teachers, announced the strike around midnight. All Prospect Heights School District 23 schools will be closed Wednesday.
Salaries have been a key sticking point in the negotiations over a new contract. According to the association, which says the strike in the northwest suburban school district will last for a minimum of two days, the school board refused to counter its last offer and canceled a meeting scheduled for Wednesday night.
A posting on the school district's website said the "Board of Education is extremely disappointed and remains willing to negotiate for a fair and equitable contract."
