State legislators were back at the Capitol Tuesday as the stalemate over a new budget continues.
Items that Gov. Bruce Rauner wants approved as part of budget negotiations don't appear to be on the legislative agenda for Tuesday.
The Senate held a hearing on the issue of college costs, while the House was scheduled to take up Rauner's idea to privatize the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.
Democratic leaders and Rauner have not yet reached an agreement on a new budget for the fiscal year starting July 1. If a new budget is not approved by the end of the month, the government could shut down.
