The pro-Gov. Bruce Rauner super PAC "Turnaround Illinois" unveiled a new TV ad Tuesday taking aim at House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Chicago) and "his politicians."
The ad, titled "Crossroads," comes amid a budget impasse in Springfield between Democratic leaders and Rauner, a Republican.
"Illinois is at a crossroads," the voiceover on the commercial says. "Mike Madigan and the politicians he controls refuse to change. They're saying no to spending discipline. No to job-creating economic reforms. No to term limits. All they want is higher taxes. Again."
The TV spot also features Rauner, who says: "Change in Springfield isn't easy. But you didn't send me here to do what's easy. With your help, I'm gonna keep fightin' to grow our economy and fix our broken state government."
Here's the ad:
Democratic lawmakers are pushing a 2016 spending plan that the governor says is $4 billion short.
Democrats have put forward some spending cuts and want to work with the administration in finding new revenues to tackle the budget. Rauner has said he will not sign an unbalanced budget nor consider new revenue options unless Democrats agree to components of the governor's controversial pro-business, anti-union "Turnaround Agenda."
If a budget agreement is not reached by July 1, the start of the 2016 fiscal year, the state government could shut down.
