More than 1,100 Illinoisans are poised to lose their jobs beginning at the end of the month, according to the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.
The following companies that have reported upcoming layoffs to the state:
- Sunstar Americas, a manufacturer of oral care products, is set to let go of 329 Chicago workers starting in June (although the workers have been offered positions in Schaumburg)
- WMS Industries, which makes game machines, will lay of 247 workers starting June 2 due to a Waukegan factory closure
- Olin Corportation, an East Alton manufacturing company, will lay off 41 workers
- MXD Group, a company specializing in logistics, will cut 94 positions
Companies with more than 75 workers have to submit notices to the state, as required by Illinois Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, 60 days prior to plants being shuttered or large employee layoffs.
