The SEIU* Illinois Council PAC rolled out a new TV ad Thursday taking aim at Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel. The ad blasts the mayor for neighborhood school closings, violence and regressive taxes, among other issues.
The 30-second spot starts off with a scene of Chicago's downtown skyscrapers.
"From up here, Chicago's never looked better," explains the voiceover on the commercial.
The ad then shows a photo of police officers standing behind yellow crime scene tape.
"But down here," the ad says, "under Mayor Rahm Emanuel we've seen nearly 10,000 shootings, 50 neighborhood schools shut down and a mayor who hits working people with higher taxes and fees, while giving special tax breaks to his friends at the very top. Now you see why they're spending millions falsely attacking Chuy Garcia. Because Rahm can't change his record, we need to change mayors."
The labor group's TV ad for Garcia comes just days after the SEIU Illinois Council endorsed the Cook County commissioner in Chicago's mayoral race.
Garcia has been the subject of ramped up negative TV ads from Emanuel's camp, criticizing the mayoral challenger for his fiscal proposals and for being an "old school" politician.

Emanuel and Garcia will go head-to-head in the April 7 runoff election.
