Get Covered Illinois Executive Director Jennifer Koehler has resigned. Koehler, who was part of the Quinn administration, was in charge of the federal grant programs that promote the health insurance marketplace to Illinoisans.
"As the marketplace enters a new phase, it's a natural point at which to turn the operation over to new leadership," Koehler told the Chicago Tribune.
More than 347,000 Illinoisans newly enrolled or re-enrolled for private health insurance through the health insurance marketplace before the Sunday deadline. That total is up from the 217,000 that enrolled last year. An additional 572,000 lower-income residents in the state qualified for Medicaid thanks to the Affordable Care Act.
"I set the marketplace up starting in January of 2013 and led them through two successful open enrollments," Koehler said. "It's good to leave on a high note. I'm really pleased with the numbers. I'm really pleased with the number of people we've been able to help."
