CHA Adopts $13 Minimum Wage, Opens Housing Wait Lists

The Chicago Housing Authority will begin paying their contractors and subcontractors a $13 minimum wage, the mayor's office announced Monday. The CHA's wage directive comes in response to an executive order issued last month by Mayor Rahm Emanuel asking city sister agencies to demand that their contractors and subcontractors pay all employees an hourly minimum wage of at least $13.

In addition to the minimum wage announcement, the CHA also said Monday that it will start up the application process today for three programs involving public housing, housing vouchers and rental assistance for private properties. The CHA has never opened the wait lists for the three housing programs at the same time until now.
