Employers in the state also added 19,300 jobs last month, the department said.

The state's unemployment rate ticked down from 6.7 percent in August. Last year, the state's September unemployment rate was 9.1 percent, according to IDES, which noted that Illinois currently has 69,000 more jobs than it had one year ago.
