In a new Chicago Tribune poll released over the weekend, Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn leads GOP gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner by 11 percentage points, at 48 percent and 37 percent, respectively.
Five percent of the 800 registered voters surveyed for the poll supported Chad Grimm, the Libertarian candidate for governor. Eight percent of the respondents were undecided.
The poll shows Quinn ahead of Rauner despite 49 percent of survey respondents reporting to be dissatisfied with the governor's job performance. Thirty-six percent of those polled viewed Quinn's governorship favorably.
Also, 49 percent of survey respondents said Quinn is more "in touch" with Illinoisans, while 30 percent said the same of Rauner. When asked which candidate would be best at handling Illinois' fiscal problems, 44 percent picked Rauner and 35 percent selected Quinn.
The telephone poll was conducted September 3 through September 12 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points. APC Research Inc. conducted the poll.
