Chicago Alderman Fioretti To Run For Mayor

Progressive Chicago Ald. Bob Fioretti (2nd) announced his candidacy for city mayor Saturday morning.

Fioretti appears to be poised to focus his campaign for mayor on education, public safety, job creation and equality for all Chicagoans.

"I love Chicago and I can't stand by while the current mayor looks out for some of us, but ignores the real struggles some families face--for good jobs, for good schools, for safe streets," Fioretti said as he announced his mayoral run. "Because if we have a mayor who ignores some of our problems, we are left with a mayor who is letting all of us down."

"I pledge to be a leader that will work with you – not against you; to be an advocate not just for the businesses in the Loop – but for the parts of the city that are too often ignored, where crime is a part of daily life and where there aren’t enough jobs, Fioretti added in an email sent following his announcement.

Here is video of Fioretti announcing his mayoral run via his website. In the almost three-minute clip, the member of the city council's Progressive Reform Caucus states that Emanuel has "failed" Chicagoans after promising to provide residents with "safer streets, stronger schools and a more stable economy:"
