CANTON, Ill. (AP) — Services are set for former west-central Illinois state representative Mike Smith.
Mike Smith was 48-years-old when he died Saturday at his Canton home of a suspected heart attack.
The Democrat served 16 years in the state Legislature before losing his 2010 re-election bid.
Gov. Pat Quinn later named him to the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board. That appointment drew criticism over whether Smith was qualified for the $94,000 position. Quinn called Smith "a friend" with a long record of working on education in the statehouse.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Oak-Hines Funeral Home in Canton. That's where services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday.
