A little more than 400 Metra employees have received raises this week in the agency's attempt to make wages more competitive and stymie the flow of managers that are leaving the company. More than 40 other employees had recently received promotions with pay raises over the last year and, as such, did not receive an additional salary increase this week.
Overall, the 450 non-union workers received an average raise of 8 percent, with about 12 of them receiving a 25 percent increase in pay.
“These reforms are not something revolutionary. They are not something sparkly. They are not sexy. They are just nuts and bolts things you ought to be doing to run a good organization,’’ said Metra CEO Don Orseno at a City Club luncheon on Thursday, according to the Sun-Times.
Orseno added that a recent analysis showed that employee salaries at Metra were "sorely behind" those in other transit agencies.
