U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) and three other Democrats are urging energy drink makers to stop marketing to children.
The lawmakers sent a letter to 17 energy drink companies Wednesday, requesting that they voluntarily list the amount of caffeine in each drink on the beverages' product labels. The letter also asked the companies to report any adverse effects to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Durbin said that although the companies claim that they do not market to children, the drinks are given out at child-friendly places, like parks and concerts, and are promoted on social media.
Durbin has also called on the FDA to investigate the effects of the drinks on children.
