State Rep. Brad Halbrook (R-Charleston) said on Monday that he would not seek re-election in 2014.
Halbrook was appointed in April 2012 to fill the vacated 110th House District seat after former State Rep. Roger Eddy (R-Hutsonville) left to be the full-time executive director of the Illinois Association of School Boards.
Halbrook said he would not seek a new term in order to spend more time with his family and 78-year-old father.
The Charleston Republican said his decision did not stem from a recent announcement by Coles County Sheriff Darrell Cox, who said he was looking to run against Halbrook in the March Republican primary.
