A U.S. Senate panel voted 10-7, with one senator voting present, in favor of a military strike in Syria.
The authorization, if fully passed, would allow the Obama administration to call a limited military strike against Syria that would take no more than 90 days and would not allow for U.S. soldiers to take part in ground combat. This is the first vote by U.S. lawmakers authorizing military action since 2002 when President George W. Bush was granted approval to embark in a war in Iraq.
The full Senate is expected to vote on the proposal next week.
