Rep. Bobby Rush (D-Chicago) and U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk (R-IL) will tour
Chicago's Englewood neighborhood Thursday to highlight the needs of
urban communities that face high rates of violence.
extended an olive branch to Kirk, promising to show him around the
community, after the Senator said in May that all Gangster Disciples
members should be jailed. Rush fired back at the time and said Kirk's comments were
an "upper-middle-class, elitist white-boy solution" to the issue of
crime in Chicago. Rush noted that a key way to solve urban violence is
by creating jobs and bringing more affordable housing to communities.
