Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan will support lawsuits filed last week by Lamba Legal and the American Civil Liberties Union, which accuse the Cook County Clerk's office of discrimination for failing to give marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
Late Friday, Madigan's office filed a notice in Cook County Circuit Court stating that it would "present the court with arguments that explain why the challenged statutory provisions do not satisfy the guarantee of equality under the Illinois Constitution,", according to the Chicago Tribune.
Cook County Clerk David Orr released a statement last week saying he is in support of the lawsuits.
