The Sun-Times reports that SEIU Local 73* reached a collective bargaining deal with the Chicago Public Schools regarding 5,500 workers in the public school system, including janitors, security staff, and school bus aides. As part of the deal, which Local 73 members will vote on, workers get a "reasonable wage increase" and CPS promises against further outsourcing.
CPS previously reached a contract agreement with Unite HERE, which represents lunchroom workers.
CPS, though, has not reached a deal with the Chicago Teachers Union, which announced at the end of last week that they will begin a strike authorization vote on Wednesday.
