Occupy Chicago Disrupts Gov. Walker's Speech (VIDEO)

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) was in Chicago yesterday to give a speech at the Union League Club on his economic policies, but protesters had something else in mind for the collective bargaining busting governor.

Just as Walker approached the microphone to give his speech, protesters from Stand Up Chicago, Occupy Chicago, and labor unions disguised as guests at the breakfast event began using the human microphone system to read a message to Walker, following it up with chants of "Union busting is disgusting!"

Walker was invited to the Union League Club of Chicago to discuss his union-busting budget policies, as evidenced by the invitation to the event which read:

Faced with mounting deficits and busted budgets, the freshman Governor took on powerful political interests – and won. In this talk, Governor Walker will review the challenges confronting Wisconsin (hint: they will sound familiar to Illinois residents), and what he proposes to overcome them. New realities are overtaking established institutions -- meet one of the young governors who is shaping the future of states in our federal system.

But labor leaders and the rest of the 99% were not amused by the mocking invitation to the speech, which was called "Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker: Taxpayers, State Budget Reforms and the New Realities". As about 30 people rallyed outside of the breakfast, about 70 of the breakfast's attendees were in fact protesters who took over the event momentarily to voice their displeasure with Walker's policies.

"It is an outrage and a shame that we sit at this fancy breakfast to listen to someone who has wreaked havoc on the lives of working families," explained a statement by Stand Up Chicago. "Gov. Walker has vilified unions and insulted the 99% who depend on living wages and adequate benefits to support their families, while on the payroll of the right wing billionaire Koch brothers.”

Here's a look at the scene as protesters temporarily silenced Walker at yesterday's breakfast event:

After the protesters left, Walker received a rousing round of applause by the remaining breakfast attendees and bragged that his reforms are working. Meanwhile, Democrats and labor leaders are planning a recall effort against the freshman Republican governor.
