Chicago community leaders gathered at WBEZ's Englewood bureau last Thursday to discuss the increasing amount of violence taking place in Chicago streets. (Since mid-May, three Chicago Police officers have been killed, making it the most fatal two-month stretch of time for the department in 40 years.) The discussion explored several potential ways to stem the violence. Former police officer Howard Saffold attended the roundtable and argued the community must give the Chicago Police Department some direction on how to have a positive impact in the community.
