"We Demand A Responsible Budget"

With the legislative leaders so far doing little to push an income tax increase, it's looking increasingly likely that early childhood, education, and human services funding could be seriously endangered. But not if members of the newly-formed coalition Women For A Better Illinois have their way. Today its members -- who represent more than 200 nonprofit agencies, philanthropists, labor unions, and legislative districts that span every corner of the state -- came together in Chicago to pressure Illinois lawmakers to pass a revenue enhancement to keep crucial state programs functioning.

"We demand a responsible budget," said Illinois Action for Children's Maria Whelan who pledged to dog Gov. Pat Quinn and the four legislative leaders until they act. "This gathering today is the tip of a mighty iceberg that will be moving toward Springfield," she warned.  Watch:
