Illinois is slated to lose 956 jobs, according to the monthly Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act report from July.
Nine Illinois employers reported the pending layoffs, including the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago and Bank of America, which are expected to cut 285 and 141 positions, respectively, in September.
Layoffs of 145 workers are expected at the Chicago-based John and Mary Madden Shelter, 1658 W. Grand Ave. The shelter, operated by Maryville Academy, serves pregnant and parenting young women. State budget issues prompted Maryville Academy to end its residential program June 30.
Companies with at least 75 workers have to submit layoff notices to the state, as required by Illinois Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, 60 days prior to plants being shuttered or large employee layoffs.
