GOP-backed legislation seeking to repeal the Affordable Care Act and defund Planned Parenthood was vetoed Friday by President Barack Obama.
"Because of the harm this bill would cause to the health and financial security of millions of Americans, it has earned my veto," Obama stated in his veto message.
Republicans have made more than 50 unsuccessful attempts to repeal the president's signature health reform law, approved in 2010.
"Rather than refighting old political battles by once again voting to repeal basic protections that provide security for the middle class, members of Congress should be working together to grow the economy, strengthen middle-class families, and create new jobs," Obama's veto message added.
House Speaker Paul Ryan said congressional Republicans will try to override the president's veto.
