Illinois labor unions are planning to push back against a pending pension proposal with emergency call-in days.
The We Are One Coalition of labor unions have set call-in days for November 25 and November 26 as well as December 2 and December 3. On those days public employees, retirees and labor supporters will call their legislators, urging them not to vote for any deal that is not backed by labor.
The coalition also set a legislative district action day for December 2, during which they will be targeting the district offices of key lawmakers.
Legislators are expected to come back to Springfield on December 3 to address a pension proposal and the coalition fears that the deal will be rushed through the general assembly and "blend unfair, unconstitutional elements from old, failed bills – such as cutting COLAs by one-third or more, hiking retirement ages, undermining pensions by expanding 401(k)’s, and other devastating pension cuts."
