State Sen. Jim Oberweis (R-Sugar Grove) is collecting signatures to petition for a run for the U.S. Senate.
Oberweis, a dairy tycoon, made the announcement stating his intentions Wednesday at a rally opposing the passage of marriage equality legislation in Illinois.
Oberweis has previously made a run for the U.S. Senate in 2002 and 2004. Oberweis also ran for Illinois governor and made a congressional bid in 2006 and 2008, respectively. The Republican legislator won his 25th district state senate seat in November 2012.
