A national summit on urban violence will take place at Chicago State
University later this month, members of the Congressional Black Caucus
Black caucus members from Illinois, including U.S. Reps. Danny Davis
(D-Chicago), Robin Kelly (D-Matteson) and Bobby Rush (D-Chicago), are
heading up the effort. News of the emergency summit comes just days after a bloody 4th of July weekend of gun
violence in the city that left 12 people dead and more than 70 wounded.

The public is welcome to attend the summit at the university's
Jones Convocation Center, 9501 S. King Dr. It will start July 25 in the
evening and run all day on July 26. Gov. Pat Quinn, Chicago Mayor Rahm
Emanuel and other various leaders, experts and officials from across the
country have also been invited, Davis told the newspaper.
