Former Ald. Sharon Dixon (24th) was arrested Saturday for allegedly carrying a loaded .357 Magnum into a neighborhood police station.
Dixon, 50, lost her seat on the Chicago City Council in 2011 to Ald. Michael Chandler (24th) after having served just one term. According to DNAinfo, officers found a loaded gun on Dixon after she walked in and out of the police station at 3315 West Ogden Ave. several times.
Prosecutors told the news agency that during the incident, Dixon pointed to a car and asked officers, "Is this D's car?" When an officer noticed she had a hostered gun, she was arrested.
was sent to Mount Sinai Hospital pending a psychological evaluation,
and was charged Monday with one count of unauthorized use of a weapon
and one count of possessing a firearm without a license.
County Judge Donald Panarese Jr. presided over Dixon’s Tuesday bond
hearing and ordered a $25,000 bond, despite a public defender’s claim
she has been struggling with psychological problems.
This is not
the first time Dixon has had a run-in with the Chicago Police
Department. In 2009, during her tenure as alderman for the West Side
