The Illinois Supreme Court agreed yesterday to hear a direct appeal of Sangamon County Judge Steven Nardulli's March 19 ruling, which found that retirees' state-subsidized health insurance is not a
constitutionally-protected pension benefit.
Four lawsuits that
looked to stop the state from imposing insurance premiums on retirees
were dismissed after the ruling. The plaintiffs and the state both agreed on Monday to ask Illinois' high court to review the case for a speedier resolution on the matter.
The court has not yet set a date to hear arguments in the case, according to the State Journal-Register.
