State lawmakers in the Illinois House debated the issue of an assault weapons ban Thursday. Advocates on both sides of the issue were also allowed to speak on the House floor.
The discussion illustrated the sharp difference between views when it comes to those who live downstate versus Chicago area lawmakers, as detailed by the Chicago Tribune.
The potential plan being considered would ban new purchases of assault weapons and allow those who currently own them to keep their guns.
Gov. Quinn says he will sign an assault weapons ban if it passes through the state legislature.
