The Illinois House Judiciary Committee is hosting two public hearings on gun safety this week, the first of which is today at noon.
Advocates from both sides of the firearm debate are invited to testify.
State
Rep. Brandon Phelps (D-Harrisburg), who sponsored the House’s
concealed-carry bill, said he would be in attendance today. State Reps.
Mike Bost (R-Murphysboro), John Bradley (D-Marion) and Jerry Costello II
(D-Smithton) have co-sponsored Phelps’ bill.
State lawmakers
were given 180 days to draft a concealed carry law when a federal
appellate court struck down Illinois’ concealed carry ban in December.
Today’s
hearing is at 12 p.m. in Room 114 of the State Capitol in Springfield.
The second hearing will take place Friday, February 22 at 10 a.m. at the
Michael A. Bilandic Building, 160 North LaSalle, 6th Floor, in Chicago.
