Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan joined nine other state attorneys general in opposing a gun permit law being considered by the U.S. Senate. The attorneys general sent a joint letter to Senate leaders today encouraging them not to move forward with the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act, which would allow licensed gun owners to bring concealed guns over state lines. The attorneys argue that the bill would result in states having to accept permits for firearms from other states where permit laws may be much more lax than their own.
In addition to Madigan, attorneys general from California, Oregon, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, New York, Massachusetts, Nevada, and Pennsylvania's attorney general-elect signed the letter.
