The final debate last night in the close race for Illinois' 8th congressional district representative included U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh (R-McHenry) and Democratic challenger Tammy Duckworth of Hoffman Estates staking polar opposite views on a woman's right to seek an abortion. Walsh declared himself "pro-life without exception", while Duckworth called herself "pro-choice without restriction."
For Walsh, without exception doesn't just mean no exceptions for rape and incest. It also includes when the woman's health is in danger. Walsh, quite dubiously, claimed to reporters after the debate that "with modern technology and science" women are never in danger of dying during pregnancy.
Walsh and Duckowrth debated on WTTW, which has the debate replay available on its Web site.
