Due to the prolonged summer drought, Illinois corn crop production is the lowest it has been since 1995, according to estimates provided today by the National Agricultural Statistics Services in Springfield. Also, state soybean production is at its lowest since 1988.
Meanwhile, the Springfield city government has unveiled a significant crack down on water use including restrictions for when residents can water their lawns and wash their cars. Springfield residents are encouraged to report violations of these prohibitions.
