President Barack Obama's re-election campaign, the Democratic National Committee and two other related committees raised $43.6 million dollars in April. Ninety-eight percent of the donations were less than $250 and the average donation was $50.23. There were 437,323 donors in April.
Obama Campaign Manager Jim Messina says the funds will be used to help drive the vote in tough states like Arizona, Virginia, Ohio and North Carolina.
Obama's campaign saw a spike in fundraising last week after he endorsed same-sex marriage.
