Guzzardi Concedes To Berrios

Will Guzzardi conceded yesterday in his 39th District State Representative race against Rep. Maria Berrios (D-Chicago), opting not to challenge his March 20 Democratic primary defeat in Cook County Circuit Court. Guzzardi earlier filed for a partial recount of his 125 vote loss with the Chicago Board of Elections. The campaign also suggested voting irregularities from the Berrios campaign.

But in a letter to supporters last night, Guzzardi wrote, "While we found some evidence of inconsistencies on Election Day, our attorney has indicated that it is probably not enough to sustain a formal legal complaint in court."

Guzzardi ended his letter by stating that he would "continue to work and organize right here in our neighborhood." The 39th District includes the majority Latino, but gentrifying Chicago neighborhoods of Logan Square and Belmont Cragin.
