Families USA, a health care consumer advocacy group based in Washington, D.C., released a report today contending that Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn's proposed $2.7 billion in Medicaid cuts would cost Illinois 25,600 jobs. The report also states business activity would be reduced $3.3 billion. Most, but not all, of these economic losses would occur in the health care industry.
We reported last week on the Illinois Hospital Association's criticism of Quinn's Medicaid cuts. According to the Springfield State-Journal Register, the Hospital Association is using Families USA research to denounce the Quinn cuts.
