Cook County Commissioner William Beavers (D-Chicago) will hold a fundraiser today to help pay for legal fees as he faces federal tax evasion charges. The event will be held at the McDonald's in Chicago's Navy Pier, the city's reigning no. 1 tourist area.

The Sun-Times reports on why the South Side commissioner would hold a fundraiser at a North Side McDonald's. The Navy Pier McDonald's owner is Blanton Canady who has donated to Beavers' campaigns. Beavers has held previous campaign fundraisers have been at the same location.

Beavers emphatically pleaded innocent to the tax evasion charges.
