The Friday afternoon deadline to register to run for the Chicago Public Schools' Local School Council (LSC) is fast approaching, after having been extended by a few weeks. Parents and community members interested in being part of the LSC have until 3 p.m. this Friday to apply to run. Applications are due to the Local School Council Relations Office, 125 S. Clark, 5th floor or the school at which the applicant wishes to run. For more information or an application to run the LSC, click here.
According to the Progressive Alliance PAC, only 4,000 applicants have registered to run for the more than 6,800 available seats. State Rep. La Shawn K. Ford (D-Chicago) recently introduced legislation that would provide merit pay to LSC members, using lottery money to fund the idea, as a means to get more participation in the councils.
