Mayor Rahm Emanuel has announced plans to build a new Malcolm X College on Chicago's West Side. The new facility will be built on the space that currently houses the existing building's parking lot. Mayor Emanuel says the effort will create 2,000 construction jobs, while also working towards his goal to improve the city's community colleges.
“For too long, City Colleges have been on the sidelines," Emanuel said while annoucing the new building plans for Malcolm X College, according to the Sun-Times. "I want to put them back on the playing field.”
The new Malcolm X College, which is set to feature two, three-story buildings and a 1,500-car parking lot, is expected to be complete by 2015.
